What to Know About The Beak and Barrel at Magic Kingdom

When does The Beak and Barrel open?

The Beak and Barrel opened on August 29, 2025. You can also now make reservations.

What is The Beak and Barrel?

The Beak and Barrel is a bar and lounge inspired by the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction and extends the story we all know and love.

Per Disney, Beak and Barrel guests are “immersed in the Tortuga world through sing-alongs, story telling, and enchanting surprises.”

The story behind the tavern is as follows: it was “established by the legendary pirate rumrunner, Captain Meridian ‘Merry’ Goldwyn, and her talkative first mate, Rummy.”

Rummy serves as the tavern’s “quartermaster” and keeps an eye on the place from his roost atop the bar. Despite being retired from sea life, “Rummy is a dutiful crewman to his beloved Merry, ensuring everything is ship-shape, sharing tales of piracy and leading the bar in a rousing toast or two. ”

Fun fact: Disney fans may notice that Rummy resembles the original Barker Bird that previously sat at the entrance to Pirates of the Caribbean.

The Mess

When it comes to the interior of The Beak and Barrel, the largest and central space is called “The Mess.” It was once known as “the mess hall for Spanish soldiers.”

The area is a space for pirates to tell their stories. There’s also a large bar that anchors one side of the room, cobbled together from salvaged portions of a cursed shipwreck.

At its center, the skull-shaped stern is home to a collection of grogs and brews. Keep your eyes peeled for the “Enchanted Rum Bottle,” which was gifted to Merry by the enchantress Tia Dalma and seemingly serves as the source of the tavern’s specialty brews.

Be sure to also look above for the hanging anchor covered in candles and dripping wax.

The Captains’ Quarters

The other area of the tavern is the “Captains’ Quarters.” It offers a space for pirates to “enjoy a taste of the finer life.” This was also once the living quarters of the Spanish Comandante.

Guests will notice that “the fine artwork and drapery hasn’t escaped slashing blades or burn marks over the years by rambunctious pirates, and in some places, faded spots on the wall are all that remains of now plundered portraits. ”

You’ll also want to take note of the five miniature ships in glass bottles mounted above the fireplace. These are rumored to represent pirates from every corner of the world banding together to defeat tyranny. Even more so, the bottles have been known to “come alive and engage in a fearsome battle.”

Along the wall, there are also four grand booths with intricately carved wooden panels, with each one telling the story of the exploits of notorious pirates, whose legends still echo across the seas.

The Mapmaker’s Room

There is also the Mapmaker’s Room. This is filled with rolled up maps, pieces of parchment, spilled ink, and many treasured secrets that belonged to a “crazed pirate cartographer.”
